What is the Good Neighbor Fund?
The Good Neighbor Fund (GNF) was established to support projects that improve the quality of life in the areas of Summit and Riverton Townships in and around the Lake Winds Energy Park. The use of the fund is consistent with the recommendations of the Good Neighbor Fund advisory panel. This seven-member panel is comprised of six Mason County residents, including three in the project area, and a representative from the Consumers Energy Foundation. The panel met over a series of five meetings to brainstorm, negotiate and reach agreement on appropriate distribution of the fund.
- The Good Neighbor Fund provides cash payments to qualifying property owners of residences located in close proximity to a wind turbine in the Lake Winds Energy Park project area.
- The Good Neighbor Fund also established an endowment administered by the Community Foundation for Mason County to fund community improvement projects in Summit and Riverton Townships.
